In the beginning, the world was a serene place. The Tarkan people lived peacefully in the jungle. Undivided, the people worshipped the earth and nature for it's beautiful gifts. In return they were given great power over the elements. However, it wasn't long until the struggle for power surfaced. It seemed as though many of the women had developed powers that seemed to exceed the men’s. And the original Queen of Tarkan, Venus, was viewed as the most powerful woman. She was soon given the title of high priestess and adored among all. Throughout her reign she eventually became Queen of Tarkan. Upset by the placement of a woman as ruler, it was not long before the men started to become jealous of women. Slowly the men became envious that the women had become a stronger species. Soon the men rebelled against the Queen's rule. In a great mutiny she was slain by her lover, Horus. Learning of their beloved leader's death, the women began to attack the men. Insisting that their own impure perversions and jealousy had displeased the Gods. And as a result they were being punished and given weaker natural powers. The village began to turn on each other and a secret society, called the Sashuri was formed.
Lead by the outcast, Horus, the Sashuri began to assassinate any women who were believed to have great power. Their goal was to weaken the women and give ultimate power to their leader. One night the assassination of a young woman, Tula, who had shown great potential and power, was ordered. However, Tula's lover had gotten word of her assassination begged her to run away with their unborn child. Tula escaped the jungle that night and told her friend, Mirage, about the plot. Mirage, blinded by anger, decided to ambush the Sashuri. She created an illusion of Tula sleeping. As the Sashuri attacked, Mirage and many other women of the village surprised them, killing the men involved.
That night Mirage was inducted as Queen and founded the Amazons. She proclaimed that any man who should come into Amazon borders be killed immediately. She began to kill any man who refused to leave their village, and consequently killed any woman who refused to join the Amazons. This was the beginning of the great wars. Through the years, many battle were fought over land. As a result the Amazons became a legend. Known as ruthless, female murderers who despised the male sex.
After many years, Tula returned to the Tarkan jungle to find that her people had been separated. She was welcomed into the Amazon village, and became assistant to the Queen. However, it was not long before Tula began to realize that her friend, Mirage, had become nothing but a bloodthirsty killer. Disgusted by her tactics and personality. Tula began to speak out. She spoke out against Mirage's battle strategy, claiming that Mirage's own hatred for men had led to the unnecessary death of many Amazons.
Outraged by her best friend’s betrayal, Mirage challenged Tula to a battle for the crown. Mirage had secretly planned for many of her best warriors to attack Tula. Thinking that they were simply images created by Mirage’s powers, She assumed that Tula would not expect them to physically be able to hurt her. However, Tula was wise and knew that Mirage would have a trick up her sleeve. Tula defeated each warrior and Mirage. She offered Mirage a chance to live and reform her ways, but Mirage now enraged at her own defeat attempted to kill Tula. As Tula evaded Mirage’s attempts, she realized that the only way to be rid of Mirage’s anger and control over the Amazon people, was to completely destroy her. She was forced to kill her own best friend.
Now Queen, Tula decreed that all Amazons were equal and that she was simply there for guidance. She led the Amazons towards a more peaceful path. They accepted the differences between the Sashuri and Amazons and although they were not quite ready to accept them fully, they granted partial immunity to certain Sashuri Warriors, who proved themselves allies of the Amazons.
With a new Queen as a guide, the amazons seemed to be on the path to recovery and peace. However, with the legend of the source of their power reaching other countries, it would not be long before more blood was spilled.
